The New England Patriots' rookie season just hit a serious roadblock. Edge rusher Quintayvious Hutchins, a standout from Boston College, has been charged with domestic assault and battery following an incident on campus.

The 23-year-old pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Newton, Massachusetts, on May 13 and was released on his own recognizance. According to court documents obtained by multiple outlets, including ESPN, the alleged altercation occurred on the evening of May 12 in a dorm room at Boston College.

Police were called to the fourth floor of Voute Hall after a report of "a male and female fighting in the hallway." A resident advisor who witnessed the incident told officers she saw the two individuals "pushing each other" and alleged that Hutchins grabbed the woman by the neck. In her statement, the RA wrote, "He said she was cheating on him and he choked and yelled at her," adding that the "choke" was "a firm grab to the neck not strangulation."

Hutchins told officers the argument started over food and that he left the scene initially. When he returned, he found his belongings scattered in the hallway. The woman involved, who reportedly declined to have a photo taken of her neck, became "visibly sad" upon learning of Hutchins' arrest. She wrote in her statement, "I'm ok nothing happened," according to the police report.

Selected by the Patriots in the NFL Draft, Hutchins now faces a legal battle that could impact his rookie season. As the case unfolds, the Patriots organization and fans alike will be watching closely. For now, the focus remains on the legal process and the well-being of all involved.
