New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye called Mike Vrabel “a great human being,” and said he doesn't think the head coach's off-field issues will be a distraction for the defending AFC champions this upcoming season. “No, I don't," Maye said. Maye spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday following the Truist Championship Pro-Am in Charlotte in which he was paired with PGA Tour pro Gary Woodland on the back nine at Quail Hollow.

In a show of unwavering team loyalty, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is publicly backing his head coach, Mike Vrabel, amid recent off-field headlines. Speaking after the Truist Championship Pro-Am in Charlotte, Maye didn't mince words when asked if Vrabel's personal issues could become a distraction for the defending AFC champions.

"No, I don't," Maye said confidently. "He's our head coach. I think he's done a great job of talking to us and talking us through it. I'm just looking forward to getting back to work and getting ready."

The support comes after Vrabel found himself in the spotlight for reasons beyond the playbook—following published photos of him with a longtime NFL reporter at an Arizona resort. Vrabel addressed the situation publicly on April 24, taking accountability without diving into specifics, and notably missed the third day of the NFL Draft to attend counseling.

"My previous actions don't meet the standard that I hold myself to. They don't," Vrabel stated, adding that he's had difficult conversations with his family, team, and the Patriots organization.

For Maye, the message is clear: trust in the man leading the huddle remains unshaken. "I think that'll take care of itself," Maye said of the off-field noise. "I know he's got the right mindset, and I know he's a great human being. I love playing for him."

It's a crucial vote of confidence from the young quarterback who has quickly become the face of the franchise. Selected third overall in the 2024 draft, the Huntersville, North Carolina native led the Patriots to Super Bowl 60 in just his second season and finished as runner-up for the 2025 AP NFL MVP award. Maye also briefly addressed the recent acquittal of former teammate Stefon Diggs on assault charges, but kept his focus squarely on the road ahead.

As the Patriots prepare to defend their AFC crown, Maye's message is one of unity: the locker room is locked in, and their head coach has their full support.
