The New England Patriots made a bold move this offseason by releasing Stefon Diggs, even though he led the team in receptions, yards, and targets. It’s a decision that raised eyebrows, especially given Diggs’ impressive 1,000-yard season while recovering from an ACL tear. But for Patriots fans worried about him landing with a division rival, there’s good news: it’s looking less likely that Diggs will end up in the AFC East.

Despite his off-the-field issues, Diggs proved he’s still a top-tier receiver and even emerged as a leader in New England. He remains a free agent, but the landscape for a divisional move has shifted significantly. Going into the draft, the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins all looked like potential fits—each needing wide receiver help. But recent moves have changed the picture.

The Jets traded up to snag a receiver in the first round and also added tight end Kenyon Sadiq, signaling a focus on developing young talent. The Dolphins, after losing both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, spent three draft picks on wide receivers, clearly investing in the future. Meanwhile, the Bills used their fourth pick on a receiver and earlier traded for D.J. Moore, giving them depth without the baggage of Diggs’ complicated history in Buffalo.

Could the Bills still use Diggs? Sure, but their past relationship and current roster construction make it a long shot. The Jets and Dolphins aren’t eyeing Super Bowl runs this season—they’re building for tomorrow. Adding a veteran like Diggs would only slow down the development of their young pass catchers. For Buffalo, which does have championship aspirations, the wiser move might be to steer clear of past drama.

In short, Patriots fans can breathe easy. While Diggs will likely find a new home before the season starts, it probably won’t be in the AFC East. That’s one less headache for a division already full of intrigue.
