An NFL writer suggested that the New England Patriots should consider adding A.J. Brown to their lineup this season, but left out a player who could be headed to the Eagles.

The New England Patriots are reportedly at a crossroads this offseason, with speculation mounting that they could be preparing to trade rising wide receiver Kayshon Boutte in a blockbuster deal for Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown. According to Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport, the Patriots' projected starting lineup for the upcoming season features Brown on the outside—but notably omits Boutte, a promising young target who has shown flashes of potential in New England.

If the Patriots are serious about acquiring Brown, the move would likely come after June 1, when his dead cap hit drops significantly from $43 million to $16 million, making the financials far more manageable. While draft picks would undoubtedly be part of any trade package, Davenport's prediction suggests that Boutte could be the key player headed to Philadelphia in exchange for the two-time Pro Bowl wideout.

Boutte, a sixth-round pick in 2023, has been a developing asset for the Patriots, but Brown represents a proven game-changer. At 6-foot-1 and 226 pounds, Brown brings elite size, speed, and physicality—exactly the kind of weapon a young quarterback like Drake Maye needs to take the next step. The Patriots' offense has lacked a true No. 1 receiver since the departure of Julian Edelman, and Brown would instantly transform that unit.

New England's roster already looks vastly different from a year ago, with new faces across the board. Adding Brown would only accelerate that transformation, giving the Patriots a legitimate superstar at the position. While parting with Boutte and multiple picks is a steep price, the chance to land a top-tier receiver like Brown could be too tempting for head coach Mike Vrabel and the front office to pass up.
