In a move that has left many MMA fans scratching their heads, the UFC has made it clear they have no interest in signing the only woman to ever defeat current bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison. Larissa Pacheco, a Brazilian powerhouse with a 23-5 record, is one of the most decorated fighters in women's MMA—but apparently, that's not enough to earn a call from the Octagon.
Pacheco's journey in the sport is a story of redemption. She first stepped into the UFC cage back in 2014 as a 19-year-old, where she lost to future champions Jessica Andrade and Germaine de Randamie. After that, she found a home in the PFL, where she suffered two losses to Kayla Harrison early on. But Pacheco didn't stay down. She went on an incredible ten-fight winning streak, culminating in a revenge victory over Harrison—making her the only fighter, male or female, to hand the two-time Olympic gold medalist a loss.
Most recently, Pacheco went toe-to-toe with the legendary Cris Cyborg in a five-round war that ended her PFL contract. Now a free agent, she's showing no signs of slowing down. Just last weekend, she popped up in Karate Combat and delivered a jaw-dropping tomahawk elbow knockout that went viral. With an 82% finishing ratio and a willingness to drop back down to 135 pounds, it seems like a no-brainer that the UFC would want her on the roster—especially given how thin the women's bantamweight division has become.
But when Pacheco reached out to UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard, the response was blunt. In an email shared with Ag. Fight, Maynard wrote simply: "I am not interested but thank you." No explanation, no negotiation, just a cold rejection. For a division that's been criticized for recycling old contenders and lacking fresh blood, passing on a proven finisher like Pacheco feels like a missed opportunity. She's not a young prospect, but she's in her prime and brings the kind of drama that fight fans love. Sometimes in sports, the best stories are the ones that get overlooked—and this one is a head-scratcher.
