The Carolina Panthers are making roster moves just ahead of their rookie minicamp this weekend, reportedly parting ways with linebacker Jacoby Windmon. The 24-year-old defender, who has been with the team on and off over the past two seasons, was released on Thursday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Windmon's journey to the NFL began as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State University, where he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. The Marrero, Louisiana native quickly found his way to Carolina, joining the Panthers from the Steelers' practice squad in mid-October of that year. After being waived by the Panthers in the summer of 2025, he briefly returned to Pittsburgh before heading back to Carolina in November 2025. He later signed a reserve/future contract following the 2025 campaign, keeping him in the Panthers' system through the offseason.

Over his two stints with the Panthers, Windmon appeared in nine games, making two starts as a rookie in 2024. He contributed 22 combined tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two passes defensed, showing flashes of potential as a depth linebacker. However, with the team gearing up for rookie minicamp and looking to build a stronger defensive unit, the front office has decided to move on.
