Panthers find reason to worry about Xavier Legette

Carolina might have a problem.

The Carolina Panthers may have a developing concern on their hands with wide receiver Xavier Legette, and a recent offseason training video isn't doing him any favors.

Legette, entering his third NFL season in 2026, finds himself at a critical crossroads. A video circulating online shows the former first-round pick looking "slow" and "heavy" during workouts, sparking alarm among Panthers fans. The clip has raised questions about whether the 2024 draft pick has lost a step or fallen out of peak condition.

This isn't entirely new territory. Legette, a late bloomer in college who was drafted primarily for his impressive size and speed combination, has yet to live up to expectations in Carolina. As a rookie, he led the Panthers in targets, but the receiver room has since become crowded and competitive.

According to ESPN's Ben Solak, Legette's role has diminished significantly. The emergence of undrafted free agent Jalen Coker and the drafting of 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan pushed Legette to No. 3 on the depth chart. Now, the addition of Chris Brazzell II—a player with a similar on-paper profile—could further threaten his spot.

For a player who was supposed to be a cornerstone of Carolina's offense, the writing may be on the wall. If Brazzell shows more speed and polish on the field, Legette could find himself squeezed out entirely. At this point, a fresh start with another team might be the best path forward for the struggling wideout.

With training camp approaching, all eyes will be on Legette to see if he can silence the doubters—or if Carolina's concerns prove to be well-founded.
