The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 4A track and field state championships delivered a weekend of standout performances, with Palm Beach County athletes bringing home five individual and relay state titles. From record-setting runs to flawless field event campaigns, these young stars proved that hard work and dedication pay off on the biggest stage.
Spanish River High School emerged as a powerhouse, led by senior distance runner Preston Sangely. Sangely captured two state championships, winning the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs with impressive times. He narrowly missed a quadruple title, finishing second in the 4x800-meter relay and third in the 3,200-meter race—coming within a second of victory in both events. The Sharks' boys team, competing with just five athletes, secured a remarkable state runner-up finish, while the girls team placed fourth overall.
Park Vista High School also shined in the field events. Jeremiah Lysius completed a perfect season, winning the high jump state title after going undefeated in all 15 meets he entered this year. Meanwhile, Chase Bureau dominated the javelin, capturing the state championship and finishing his season with an 11-1 record in the event.
Spanish River's girls 4x800-meter relay team added to the county's trophy haul, showcasing the depth of talent in Palm Beach County. Other notable performances included Spanish River freshman Makaela Morilla (800-meter, 2:13.77), junior Alba Antunez-Perez (1,600-meter, 4:52.38; 3,200-meter, 10:32.14), and freshman Lailani Levy (3,200-meter, 10:39.53). Royal Palm Beach's Joliana Simon placed third in the discus (137'10"), Palm Beach Central's I-jah Marseille ran 10.55 in the 100-meter, and John I. Leonard's Shedner Gerilus clocked 47.86 in the 400-meter.
