As Crystal Palace stands on the brink of what could be the greatest night in club history, the clock is ticking—just 13 days away from a monumental showdown. With that in mind, the big question is starting to surface: should manager Oliver Glasner begin resting key players now?
By the time May 27 rolls around, Palace will have played their 60th match of the season—a staggering 12 more than last year. The toll is visible, and while this historic campaign—our first-ever taste of European football—has been nothing short of incredible, the fixture congestion has clearly taken its toll on the squad.
Glasner is no stranger to high-stakes moments. He navigated a similar path with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021, and he's made it clear he doesn't want the team mentally checking out before the final. It's a smart approach—players lose rhythm when they're sidelined too long, and you need sharpness for a game of this magnitude. But there's a fine line: we simply cannot afford injuries at this point.
With our league position already mathematically secure and no chance of reaching a season-best points tally, there's little left to prove domestically. In Wednesday's clash with Manchester City, we saw some rotation as Adam Wharton and Ismaila Sarr started on the bench. Yet, even then, Glasner brought them on with 30 minutes remaining—despite being 2-0 down—which did little to calm the nerves.
With just two league games left, I believe a few more players need protecting ahead of the final, especially at the back. Take Maxence Lacroix, for example: he's played 53 out of a possible 57 matches this season. That's absolutely relentless, and at some point, it becomes unsustainable.
Right now, the priority is clear: keep everyone fit. This team has come too far and worked too hard to let tired legs or needless injuries derail what could be the most unforgettable night in Crystal Palace's history.
