Two former T&G Super Team stars are making headlines again—this time on the national stage. Kasey Ricard of Littleton and Kylie Doherty of Bolton and Nashoba Regional have powered the Boston University Terriers to their fourth consecutive Patriot League softball championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
The Terriers (46-13) enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed in the Lubbock Regional at Texas Tech, opening play against Ole Miss on May 15 at 2 p.m. For a program that's built a dynasty in the Patriot League, this latest title run is a testament to the leadership and talent of these two standout athletes.
Ricard, a senior pitcher, has been rewriting the BU record books throughout her four-year career. With a 32-6 record, she leads the nation in wins and ranks sixth in strikeouts with 230. Her 920 career strikeouts are a BU record, and she's just eight away from the Patriot League all-time mark. "The championships are my favorite part of being a Terrier," Ricard said after BU's decisive win over Colgate. "Being able to compete every year and having a coaching staff that puts us there." Her dominance on the mound echoes her high school days at Littleton, where she set records for lowest ERA and most no-hitters.
On the offensive side, junior outfielder Kylie Doherty is making her own mark. In the Patriot League final, she blasted two home runs—including a grand slam—in a 12-1 victory over Colgate, helping BU become the first team since Lehigh (1993-96) to win four straight conference titles. "It's always satisfying," Doherty said. "Who doesn't love winning? Our team has put in the effort, put in the work, so with a full team effort, I knew we could get it done."
Doherty, who batted .677 and led Central Mass. with 10 home runs during her senior year at Nashoba, has taken her game to another level at BU. She set a school and Patriot League record with 26 home runs this season, is batting .396, and recently became BU's and the league's all-time leader in RBIs. Her power at the plate has made her a nightmare for opposing pitchers.
The accolades keep rolling in for this dynamic duo. Ricard earned her third straight Patriot League Pitcher of the Year honor, while Doherty was named Patriot League Player of the Year for the first time. Together, they've turned BU into a perennial contender—and they're not done yet.
As the Terriers head to Lubbock, fans of the game will be watching closely. Whether you're a BU supporter or just love a good underdog story, this is a team that embodies the grit and determination we celebrate in sports—and in the gear we wear.
