The San Diego Padres continue to dominate the San Francisco Giants, securing a 5-1 victory Wednesday at Oracle Park in a game that left more questions than answers for the home team.

Wednesday was Career Day at the ballpark, where students gathered to learn about sports and media careers from Giants executives. Unfortunately, the on-field product offered a different kind of lesson—one in offensive struggles. The Giants managed just three hits total, with rookie Jesus Rodriguez providing two of them and Rafael Devers adding a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Devers' blast, his first since April 18, briefly tied the game at 1-1. But that was the extent of San Francisco's offensive highlights. After that fifth-inning heroics, the Giants could only muster a single baserunner against a Padres bullpen that, while talented, isn't invincible.

The game started with Padres opener Bradgley Rodriguez, whose unconventional sinkerball delivery baffled Giants hitters, retiring them on just seven pitches. Matt Waldron (1-1) took over in the second inning and, despite entering with a 9.88 ERA, pitched five innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts. Facing this Giants lineup is starting to look like a prescription for lowering any pitcher's ERA.

Giants starter Adrian Houser (0-4) was the hard-luck loser, surrendering just three hits and two runs over six-plus innings. The scoring began in the fourth when Gavin Sheets launched a cannonball into McCovey Cove—he's now slugging .538 against the Giants for his career. Houser's final line was marred by an extra run that came more from defensive miscues than his own pitching.

For Giants fans, the series loss to San Diego raises familiar concerns about offensive consistency and defensive reliability. As the team looks to bounce back, one thing is clear: they'll need more than just Career Day inspiration to turn things around.
