MarShawn Lloyd is stronger than he’s ever been. Will it be enough for him to stay healthy this season? If he does, it could secure the Packers depth.

The Green Bay Packers are holding onto hope that running back MarShawn Lloyd can finally shake the injury bug and deliver on his promise. After two seasons plagued by soft-tissue issues—limiting him to just 10 snaps since being drafted in the third round in 2024—the team is cautiously optimistic that a revamped offseason approach could be the key to unlocking his potential.

Running backs coach Ben Sirmans shared an update that has Packers fans leaning in: "Obviously we all know who we’re waiting. Is it time?" The question hangs in the air as Lloyd enters his third season with the franchise, having yet to establish himself as a reliable option behind star back Josh Jacobs.

This offseason, Lloyd took a significant step by working with a professional training group for the first time—a move that has already paid dividends. Sirmans noted that Lloyd reports feeling "stronger than he’s ever been," particularly in his lower body, and has developed a consistent pre-practice regimen to manage his body. "He’s got a routine that he does before we even go out to practice," Sirmans said. "We’re very optimistic, but we’ve all been optimistic before. So we’ve just got to wait and see."

The Packers' depth chart took a hit when Emanuel Wilson departed in free agency, but Sirmans believes the current roster offers enough options to support Jacobs. Still, the coach’s excitement is clearly reserved for Lloyd, whose raw talent has tantalized the organization since day one. The challenge has always been keeping him on the field.

Rather than tiptoeing around Lloyd’s health this spring, Sirmans is taking a different approach: full throttle. "If something doesn’t go right, it’s better to find out now than later when you get into the season," he explained. "As long as he’s rolling and feeling confident, we are too."

For Packers fans, the hope is that this new mindset—combined with Lloyd’s commitment to injury prevention—finally turns that potential into production. In a league where depth at running back can make or break a playoff run, a healthy MarShawn Lloyd could be the difference-maker Green Bay has been waiting for.
