The Green Bay Packers have made a significant move to solidify their quarterback depth, signing veteran Tyrod Taylor to back up starter Jordan Love as the team prepares for the upcoming season. The Packers announced the signing on Monday, along with the release of quarterback Desmond Ridder.

This roster adjustment comes after former backup Malik Willis departed for the Miami Dolphins, inking a three-year, $67.5 million deal with $45 million guaranteed. With Ridder now out of the picture, Taylor and Kyle McCord are the two quarterbacks behind Love on the depth chart.

Taylor, who will turn 37 on August 3, brings a wealth of experience to Green Bay. Over 15 NFL seasons, he has made 62 starts, including four with the New York Jets last season. His journey began when the Baltimore Ravens selected him out of Virginia Tech in the sixth round of the 2011 draft, and he has since played for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, and New York Giants.

Known for his dual-threat ability, Taylor has completed 61.8% of his passes for 13,033 yards, with 73 touchdowns and 34 interceptions. He has also rushed for 2,424 yards and 20 touchdowns, making him a reliable option in critical situations. Last season with the Jets, he went 80-of-134 for 779 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions, while adding 143 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The Packers chose Taylor over Ridder, who started 17 games for the Atlanta Falcons from 2022-23 and made one start for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. Ridder had joined Green Bay's practice squad on December 31 and was elevated to the active roster a week later. Meanwhile, McCord, a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025, spent last season on their practice squad and now adds depth to the Packers' quarterback room.
