The Green Bay Packers shook up their receiving corps this offseason, trading Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles and letting Romeo Doubs walk in free agency to the New England Patriots. These moves have opened the door for a deeper rotation, giving wideouts Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, and Savion Williams a chance to step into more prominent roles.
One name generating buzz is second-year receiver Savion Williams. Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich didn't hold back his excitement, saying, "It's going to be fun to watch him go out there and play. I'm excited about watching him this offseason and training camp."
Williams, a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, had a quiet rookie season. He finished with 10 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, adding 11 carries for 37 yards on the ground. But at 24 years old, he's poised for a bigger role heading into the 2026 season.
The Packers' passing attack is loaded with talent, led by quarterback Jordan Love. In his third year as a starter, Love posted career-best numbers: a 66.3% completion rate, 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. He was efficient and clutch, especially when head coach Matt LaFleur dialed up aggressive play-calling. That aggressive approach sparked Green Bay's best stretch of the season and could signal a more pass-heavy offense next year—great news for Williams.
Stenavich describes Williams as a "fast, physical" receiver, traits that made him a highlight machine in college. In his senior season, he hauled in 60 receptions for 611 yards and six touchdowns, while also rushing for 322 yards and six scores on 51 carries. That versatility could be a game-changer for the Packers.
Green Bay has gone all-in to win now, locking up Love to a big contract and adding star pass-rusher Micah Parsons last offseason. The 2026 season is pivotal for the Packers to capitalize on their championship window—and with more targets up for grabs, Williams could be the breakout weapon that helps them get there.
