Orrville's Caden Race didn't let a packed schedule stop him from winning his fourth PAC meet pole vault title in a row on Thursday evening.

Orrville's Caden Race knows a thing or two about multitasking—and winning. On Thursday evening at the Principals Athletic Conference track and field meet, the senior standout didn't let a jam-packed schedule stop him from claiming his fourth consecutive PAC pole vault title.

Here's how the drama unfolded: Race was just about to run the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay—the final running event of the day at Canton South High School—when his coaches waved him over to the pole vault area. He had already made one vault earlier, but now he needed to squeeze in a few more attempts before the relay gun went off. No problem. Race hustled over, grabbed his pole, and cleared two jumps in rapid succession with impressive ease. "12-6 on the first, then 13-0 on the second," he said afterward.

Then it was back to the track, where he powered Orrville to a second-place finish in the 4x400, running the opening leg and earning eight points for the Red Riders. When he returned to the pole vault pit, he learned that his 13-0 clearance was already the best of the day—and the title was his. But here's the kicker: he still had three jumps left if he wanted them. Ever the competitor, Race walked over to his family and asked what height they wanted to see him attempt. Someone shouted "14," but Race had other plans. He called it a day.

"No need to do it," Race explained. "It was after the 4x400 and my legs and hamstring were tired. I have districts next week. I already won it and got the points. Just save my legs." Smart move from a seasoned athlete who knows the bigger picture.

And Race wasn't just a one-event wonder. Earlier in the day, he blazed to a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.15) and won the 400 meters with a time of 51.47. That's four events total—a grueling workload that would test any athlete. But for Race, it's all part of the game. With districts on the horizon, he's playing the long game, and his fourth straight PAC pole vault title is just another chapter in an already impressive prep career.
