Tucker evolved into a 6'5" forward who could defend larger players and drain corner 3s — skills elite teams needed.

After 14 seasons in the NBA, P.J. Tucker has officially announced his retirement, closing the book on a career defined by grit, versatility, and championship glory.

The 6'5" forward, who became a coveted piece for contending teams in the late 2010s and early 2020s, made the announcement via an emotional Instagram post. "20 years being my job but 40 plus years of not being able to fathom doing anything other than it. So here's to retiring from the NBA… because I will NEVER stop ballin," Tucker wrote.

Tucker's journey to NBA stardom was anything but straightforward. Drafted in the second round by the Toronto Raptors in 2006 out of the University of Texas, he was waived after just his rookie season and couldn't find another NBA home. Rather than give up, he took his talents overseas, playing professionally in Israel, Ukraine, Greece, Italy, and Germany. It was there that he refined his game and discovered his identity as a player.

In 2012, the Phoenix Suns brought him back to the NBA, and he never looked back. Over 14 seasons, Tucker suited up for eight teams: Toronto, Phoenix, Houston, Milwaukee, Miami, Philadelphia, the LA Clippers, and New York. He appeared in 866 NBA games—a testament to his durability and value.

What made Tucker special wasn't his scoring average (6.6 points per game) or his rebounding (5.4 per game). It was the intangibles. At just 6'5", he could guard much larger forwards and even centers in the post, while draining corner 3s with automatic precision. That unique skill set made him a must-have for any team with championship aspirations.

His impact was never more evident than during the 2020-21 season, when the Milwaukee Bucks traded for him mid-season. Tucker's toughness and defensive versatility were key components in the Bucks' title run, earning him an NBA championship ring that validated his unconventional path to the top.

For fans who remember the "Can we get P.J. Tucker?" era, his retirement marks the end of a chapter where one undersized forward proved that heart, hustle, and a reliable corner 3 could change the trajectory of a franchise.
