After nine seasons of shaping champions, Oklahoma women's gymnastics assistant coach Ashley Kerr has resigned from the Sooners' staff. The university announced the change Tuesday, alongside the hiring of former OU national champion gymnast Olivia Trautman as her replacement.
Kerr, who is married to Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, joined the program in 2017 as a volunteer assistant before being promoted to assistant coach in 2023. During her tenure, she specialized in coaching the balance beam group and helped the Sooners capture five national championships—in 2019, 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026.
"With gratitude and a heavy heart, we say goodbye to Ashley after nine seasons," OU head coach K.J. Kindler said in a statement. "Ashley's impact on OU gymnastics will be long-lasting and she will always be a part of our family."
Kerr expressed mixed emotions about her departure. "After sincere thought, I have decided to resign from my position as assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma," she said. "My nine years at OU have brought me great joy and fulfillment."
Stepping into the role is Olivia Trautman, a former Sooners standout who won a national title as a gymnast. She joins the staff after spending the 2026 season as an assistant coach at Utah State, bringing a fresh perspective and deep familiarity with the OU program.
The transition comes on the heels of yet another dominant season for Oklahoma. The Sooners finished 35-1-1 in 2026, securing the SEC regular-season title, their 16th consecutive NCAA regional championship, and the program's eighth national title in the last 12 seasons—a testament to the winning culture Kerr helped build.
For fans of the Sooners, this marks the end of an era, but the foundation remains rock-solid. With a new face on the coaching staff and a championship pedigree intact, Oklahoma gymnastics looks poised to continue its reign atop the sport.
