The Oklahoma Sooners are building something special in Norman, and it's not just about the present—it's about the future. Already boasting the No. 1 recruiting class for 2027, the program is setting its sights on the 2028 cycle, and they have a legitimate shot at landing one of the top prospects in the nation.
The Sooners' 2027 class is headlined by early commitments from offensive linemen Cooper Hackett and Kaeden Penny, a strategy that has clearly paid off. In the 2026 cycle, they built momentum with early pledges from players like Noah Best and Deacon Schmitt, while Michael Fasusi helped solidify the class. Now, as they look ahead to 2028, it appears the offensive line is once again a priority. Earlier this week, Oklahoma extended an offer to a standout 2028 offensive tackle.
Enter Austin Attalah, a 6'7", 305-pound offensive tackle from San Bernardino, California. Ranked as the No. 11 recruit in the 2028 Rivals300, Attalah has drawn interest from a long list of powerhouse programs. The Sooners are among those in the mix, and interestingly, they appear first on his graphic—a small detail, but one that hints at genuine interest. While Rivals currently lists USC and UCLA as the frontrunners (given Attalah's LA-area roots), Oklahoma has a strong case to make.
Why? Because the Sooners have been on a roll recruiting California talent. Seven players in their 2026 class and several commits in the 2027 class hail from California or the LA area. Oklahoma has proven it can compete for West Coast stars, making Attalah far from a reach. The Sooners may traditionally dominate recruiting in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Florida, but their brand is truly global. Landing Attalah would continue two familiar trends: prioritizing elite offensive linemen and tapping into California's deep talent pool.
