It’s obvious. Right?

When the Phillies' bullpen held the Colorado Rockies without a single baserunner over 4⅓ innings last night, it wasn't just a good outing—it was a statement. Sure, Colorado isn't exactly a powerhouse offense this season, but they've been far from pushovers. Shutting them down like that deserves a tip of the cap.

That performance got me thinking: beyond the electric Jhoan Duran, who is really the Phillies' best reliever right now? It seems like an obvious question, but the answer might surprise you.

My first instinct was Brad Keller. He's been solid, no doubt—but "solid" is a far cry from the otherworldly dominance he showed back in 2025. He's been good, but not the automatic shutdown guy we remember.

Then there's Chase Shugart. He's turned some heads early this season with his stuff, making a strong case for himself. But can we really slot him in at No. 2 behind Duran just yet? It feels a little premature.

There are other arms in the mix, too, each with their own strengths. But when you weigh consistency, experience, and raw talent, I keep circling back to Keller. He might not be at his absolute peak, but he's still the guy I'd trust most in a big spot after Duran. Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one.
