This is quite the development for Ohio State.

In a twist that's sure to spark plenty of conversation in Columbus, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day's son, RJ Day, has made a college commitment that will put him in the opposing huddle. The talented high school quarterback announced Sunday that he will play for the Northwestern Wildcats—a Big Ten rival of his father's Buckeyes.

RJ, a rising senior at St. Francis de Sales in Columbus, chose Northwestern over fellow Big Ten contender Purdue and South Florida, where former OSU offensive coordinator Brian Hartline recently took the head coaching reins. Standing 6 feet tall and throwing right-handed, RJ never received an offer from Ohio State, as his recruitment didn't reach the five-star level needed for powerhouse programs.

Don't let that fool you, though. RJ has been electric on the field. This past fall, he threw for a school-record 482 yards in a playoff game, capping it off with a game-winning touchdown to Buckeye target Jordan Karhoff. That kind of clutch performance shows he's ready to make his own mark.

For the Day family, there's a fun silver lining: RJ's high school colors are purple—the same as Northwestern's. No wardrobe change needed. And while Ryan Day is likely a few seasons away from facing his son as an opposing quarterback, the possibility now looms on the Big Ten horizon. For now, RJ has one more high school season to shine before heading to Evanston to carve out his own legacy.
