Bethel University has turned to a familiar face within the Crossroads League to lead its men's basketball program, announcing David Osborn as its new head coach.
Osborn steps into the role following the departure of Steve Drabyn, who left earlier this month to take the helm at conference rival Marian University. The move brings Osborn back to Indiana basketball circles where he has deep roots.
“We are thrilled to welcome coach Osborn,” said Bethel Athletic Director Jason Lewkowicz. “David is a seasoned coach and servant leader who exemplifies what we strive to be every day. Bethel men’s basketball is in great hands.”
Osborn arrives with significant NAIA experience, most recently serving as head coach at Trinity Christian College. He guided the Trolls to a 17-13 record this past season. His resume also includes a critical six-year stint as an assistant at Indiana Wesleyan, where he helped the Wildcats capture the 2018 NAIA national championship.
“I am honored to be named the next men's basketball coach at Bethel,” Osborn stated. “We inherit a program with a rich history and a supportive community... It was important to me to find an institution where there was a shared vision and administrative alignment. We found that here.”
The Fort Wayne native, who also runs TRU Basketball Camps, takes over a Pilots squad that went 26-9 last season and reached the second round of the NAIA tournament. He will be tasked with building upon a legacy that includes three NAIA and five NCCAA national titles.
This coaching change sets the stage for an intriguing new chapter in Crossroads League basketball, as Osborn now prepares to face his predecessor, Drabyn, in a compelling new rivalry.
