The Cincinnati Bengals' mission this offseason is clear: overhaul a defense that finished 31st in the NFL. While free agency additions like edge rusher Boye Mafe and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen are a start, all eyes are on the NFL Draft in 10 days, where the Bengals hold the 10th overall pick.
But what if the biggest upgrade doesn't come from the draft board? With roughly $20 million in cap space, Cincinnati could make a seismic move by trading for disgruntled New York Giants star Dexter Lawrence.
The idea gained serious traction when Bengals veteran left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. was asked about it on FanDuel TV's "Up & Adams." Brown, who has battled Lawrence in the trenches, didn't hesitate. "Aw, man, naw Dexter Lawrence is a baller," Brown said. "I think he'd be even more of a baller in orange and black."
Lawrence, a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, has requested a trade from the Giants. While his 2025 production saw a dip, his proven ability to dominate the interior is undeniable. For a Bengals team needing to fortify its defensive front, pairing Lawrence with newcomer Jonathan Allen would create a nightmare for opposing offensive lines.
Brown's endorsement carries weight. Despite his teams being 3-0 against Lawrence's Giants, the respect is immense. "He definitely would make our football team better," Brown stated. "And, to be honest, there’s not a lot of teams he wouldn't make better. He’s a special talent."
As the draft approaches, the prospect of acquiring a proven "baller" like Lawrence presents a tantalizing alternative for a Bengals defense eager to climb the ranks.
