The Baltimore Orioles are navigating a tough season at 17-20, with the injury bug hitting hard and playoff hopes already looking shaky. While it's too early to call it quits, there's a real chance the Orioles could become sellers by the MLB Trade Deadline. If that happens, they have a few intriguing pieces to dangle—and one name stands out: lefty All-Star starter Trevor Rogers.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Rogers could be a valuable trade chip. Starting pitchers always draw interest at the deadline, and Rogers has the kind of upside that contenders love. But there's a catch—two, actually.
First, the Orioles need to commit to selling. That means falling out of the postseason race completely. While a Wild Card spot isn't out of reach, Baltimore could still stay in contention. In that case, they'd likely hold onto Rogers unless a deal helps them add talent elsewhere.
Second, Rogers needs to turn his season around. He's currently sporting a 4.75 ERA and just came off the injured list after an illness. His career has been a rollercoaster—plenty of valleys, but also a stunning peak: a 1.81 ERA over 18 starts last year. That kind of ceiling makes him a tempting target for playoff hopefuls, especially since he's eligible for free agency this offseason.
If Rogers can rediscover that form and the Orioles continue to struggle, a trade becomes much more realistic. For now, it's a waiting game—one that could reshape Baltimore's roster and give a contender a high-upside arm down the stretch.
