The Baltimore Orioles have added some bullpen depth, acquiring right-handed reliever Eduarniel Nunez from the Athletics in a cash trade on Friday.
Nunez, a former San Diego Padres arm, was recently designated for assignment by Oakland. The 26-year-old made 10 big-league appearances in 2025 between the Padres and A's, but struggled to a 7.11 ERA over 12.2 innings, allowing 10 earned runs.
His Triple-A numbers this season weren't much sharper—a 5.56 ERA with 11 walks in just 11.1 innings for Las Vegas. After the trade, Baltimore optioned Nunez to Triple-A Norfolk, where the Orioles hope to refine his mechanics and unlock the potential that made him a prospect to watch.
To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, Baltimore designated right-hander Christian Roa for assignment, per MLB Trade Rumors.
While this isn't a headline-grabbing move, it's a classic Orioles project: take a hard-throwing righty with some major league experience, let him work with their development staff in Norfolk, and see if they can turn him into a contributor down the stretch. For a team eyeing the AL East crown, every bullpen piece counts.
