Hearts fans might not want to entertain the idea of Derek McInnes leaving Tynecastle, but success has a way of attracting attention. If the Gorgie side goes on to win the Scottish Premiership this season—becoming the first non-Old Firm club to do so in 41 years—the spotlight will shine brightly on the man behind the triumph.
Former Hearts manager Robbie Neilson believes McInnes will still be at the helm come next season, but he acknowledges that a "crazy offer" could change everything. "I'd be surprised if he's not there next season," Neilson said. "The season they've had has been amazing—European football next year, potentially Champions League. With Tony Bloom reinvesting, the team will only get stronger. Unless it's a crazy offer—and I'm talking about Premier League clubs in England or big teams abroad—I don't think he'll jump."
McInnes took over at Hearts in May 2025 after guiding Kilmarnock to the Scottish Championship title and European football. Neilson suggests the only job that might tempt him away is the Scotland national team role, but the timing may not be right. "The Scotland one is interesting, depending on what happens with Steve Clarke. It looks like he'll leave after the World Cup campaign. Derek would be the number one choice by a country mile. But now he's at Hearts, with a potential title win and European football on the horizon, I just don't think the timing's right for Derek."
