GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers brought in nine players on a tryout basis for their rookie minicamp, and two of them are names that will ring a bell for NFL fans. Among the hopefuls is veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool, a former second-round pick who was nearly a Packer two years ago.
Back in 2022, the Pittsburgh Steelers put Claypool on the trade block just before the deadline. The Packers jumped at the chance, offering a second-round pick for the Notre Dame product. But the Chicago Bears swooped in with a similar offer, and the Steelers chose Chicago, betting their pick would land higher in the 2023 draft. It was a move that didn't pan out as hoped.
Claypool's stint with the Bears was brief—just 10 games, where he hauled in 18 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. By October 2023, Chicago traded him to the Miami Dolphins in a pick swap. Last season, he signed a one-year, $1.135 million deal with the Buffalo Bills but was cut at the end of training camp. He hasn't seen NFL action since the 2023 season, making this tryout a critical chance to revive his career.
Also getting a look is Alabama-Birmingham running back Isaiah Jacobs, the younger brother of Packers star Josh Jacobs. It's a family connection that adds some extra intrigue to the camp. For a team always looking to bolster its roster depth, these tryouts could unearth a hidden gem or two.
