In a statement victory that signals the Loggers are ready to compete with the big programs, Onalaska (9-7) dominated Rochester 13-3 in a five-inning mercy rule contest on Friday. This win marks their first triumph over a Class 1A team this season, showing the program is stepping up in weight class and proving its mettle.
Onalaska came out firing from the first pitch, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning to set an aggressive tone. The inning was highlighted by a two-out, two-run home run from Kaiyah Sandridge that sailed over the right-field fence, igniting the home crowd. The rally also featured RBI doubles from Braelynn Babb and Kate Zandell, showcasing the team's explosive offensive depth.
The Loggers weren't done there. In the bottom of the fourth, they piled on six more runs, capitalizing on Rochester's defensive miscues. None of those runs came via hits—three crossed the plate on groundouts—demonstrating Onalaska's ability to manufacture runs with smart, disciplined at-bats. Sandridge and Zandell each finished with two hits, while Babb went the distance in the circle, scattering six hits and striking out four to secure the win.
Rochester (1-15) showed fight in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs on an Addi Morgan single. Charlie Culp also impressed at the plate with a pair of doubles, giving the Warriors a spark. However, Onalaska's defense shut the door quickly, inducing a fielder's choice and a pop-up to end the inning and seal the victory.
For the Loggers, this win is a confidence booster as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. They have two C2BL games remaining, starting with a matchup against Mossyrock on Monday. Rochester, meanwhile, will have a week to regroup before facing Castle Rock next Friday.
