As the college sports season winds down, local athletes are making their mark on the field and in the box scores. Here's a look at the standout performances from the past week:
Women's lacrosse saw Jacqui Detelich (Conneaut 2023) close out her season in style, tallying six goals—including a hat trick—and three ground balls for Edinboro. Teammate Rylee Jones (Conneaut 2022) chipped in with a goal, an assist, and a ground ball, while Alayna Johnston (Conneaut 2025) added a ground ball of her own. Over at Allegheny, Olivia Savage (Meadville 2022) found the net twice and scooped up a ground ball.
On the diamond, Wyatt Burchill (Saegertown 2025) was a force for Allegheny, appearing in three games and crossing the plate five times while driving in two RBIs and smacking a double. Dawson Thomas (Conneaut 2023) also saw action for Allegheny, striking out one batter in an inning of work.
Penn State Shenango's pitching duo of Brady and Mason Walker (both Meadville 2023) kept busy, with Brady fanning four over four innings across three appearances, while Mason struck out two in four innings over three games. Hank Shaffer (Saegertown 2023) scored once for Penn State Behrend, and Owen Garvey (Meadville 2023) got into two games for Keuka College.
In softball, Mikaila Obenrader (Saegertown 2023) was dominant for Canisius, striking out six batters over 9.1 innings. Brooke Wise (Conneaut 2023) had a busy week for Salem, playing five games and contributing both in the circle—three strikeouts in 3.1 innings—and at the plate, with a run and an RBI. Linda Shepard (Conneaut 2023) made the most of her final regular-season games for Penn State New Kensington, recording three runs, three RBIs, a double, and a home run, while also adding two strikeouts and allowing just one earned run in three innings on the mound.
Sheila Despenes (Maplewood 2024) scored for Thiel, and Ali Acosta-Reyes (Cambridge Springs 2022) crossed the plate once for Mercyhurst. Camille Turner (Conneaut 2025) and Makayla Hall (Conneaut 2023) also saw action in Thiel's final games of the season.
