Notre Dame has long been a factory for elite offensive linemen, churning out NFL-ready talent season after season. The Fighting Irish just added another potential star to that proud tradition.

Oluwasemilore Olubobola, a five-star offensive tackle from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, New Jersey, announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Tuesday. He chose the Irish over powerhouse programs Miami and Texas A&M, marking a major recruiting win for head coach Marcus Freeman.

According to 247Sports, Olubobola is the No. 17 overall prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country, and the top-ranked player out of New Jersey. His commitment makes him Notre Dame's highest-rated pledge for this cycle so far.

Olubobola earned a spot in the 2026 Under Armour All-American Game after a standout junior season, where he anchored the left tackle spot for a St. Peter's Prep team that finished 8-3. At 6-foot-5 and with the athleticism to match, he's exactly the kind of physical, technically sound lineman that has defined Notre Dame's offensive line legacy.

Since Freeman took over in 2021, Notre Dame's recruiting has reached new heights. The Irish previously hovered in the 10-20 range nationally, but their 2026 class was one of the best in years, and the 2027 group looks poised to follow suit. Olubobola is the first five-star commitment for Freeman this cycle, and 247Sports currently ranks Notre Dame's class at No. 6 nationally. Of the 15 pledges so far, five are top-100 recruits, and seven are four-star prospects or better.

While the class is defense-heavy at this point, Notre Dame's top two recruits both play offense. Olubobola is joined by four-star offensive tackle James Halter from Central Catholic in Pittsburgh, who ranks as the No. 57 player in the country.
