Auburn women's basketball just got a whole lot more exciting. On Sunday, May 3, the Tigers officially signed Ole Miss transfer guard Sira Thienou, a sophomore who brings serious firepower to the Plains.
After two standout seasons in Oxford, Thienou entered the transfer portal and quickly found a new home with head coach Larry Vickers' squad. Last season, she started 29 games for the Rebels, posting impressive averages of 9.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Auburn fans got a firsthand look at her talent when she dropped 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds against the Tigers—though Auburn fell 71-45 in that matchup.
Thienou's scoring ability has been on display since day one. As a freshman, she averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.4 steals across 33 appearances. Her breakout moment came that year when she exploded for 29 points in a 94-69 victory over Florida. That kind of clutch performance is exactly what the Tigers need as they build for the future.
Thienou is the sixth addition this offseason for Vickers, joining a wave of new talent that includes Phoenix Stotijn, Zahara Bishop, Savannah Scott, Danielle Osho, and Jessica Peterson. With this roster shaping up, Auburn is clearly making a statement: they're ready to compete.
Welcome to the Plains, Sira Thienou. Big things are on the horizon.
