The Ole Miss Rebels have made another notable addition to their football staff—and this time, it's a familiar name from their SEC West rival. Patrick Kelly, the son of former LSU head coach Brian Kelly, is heading to Oxford to serve as the assistant director of football support.
Kelly spent three seasons in Baton Rouge (2022-25), working in a variety of roles including coaching graduate assistant and within the recruiting department. His move to Ole Miss continues a trend of cross-state personnel shuffling that has defined this offseason between the two programs.
The connection between LSU and Ole Miss has grown especially tight after a series of coaching moves. The biggest shakeup came when LSU hired former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, along with several of his assistants. In response, the Rebels have been busy adding ex-LSU staffers, including former general manager Austin Thomas and running backs coach Frank Wilson. Kelly's existing relationship with Thomas made Ole Miss a natural fit.
This latest hire adds even more intrigue to what's already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of the 2026 college football season. LSU and Ole Miss are set to clash on September 19, with the coaching drama between the two staffs sure to add extra electricity to the matchup.
