The Ole Miss Rebels have added another familiar name to their football support staff, bringing in Patrick Kelly as the team's new assistant director of football support. Kelly, the son of former LSU head coach Brian Kelly, confirmed the move through his updated bio on X.

Patrick Kelly's most recent role was as football support and operations coordinator on his father's staff during the 2025 season. He becomes the third member of last year's LSU staff to join the Rebels under new head coach Pete Golding, following running backs coach Frank Wilson and Austin Thomas, who was hired as president of football operations and general manager.

The younger Kelly's move comes after a turbulent period for the Tigers. Brian Kelly was dismissed after eight games in 2025, his fourth season at the helm, with Wilson stepping in as interim coach to finish the year at 7-6. LSU then made a splash by hiring former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin in late November, while Golding was promoted from defensive coordinator to permanent head coach for the Rebels.

The coaching carousel between the two SEC West rivals has been particularly active. Several Ole Miss assistants—including offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., running backs coach Kevin Smith, tight ends coach Joe Cox, linebackers coach Chris Kiffin, and wide receivers coach George McDonald—chose to stay with the Rebels through their College Football Playoff run before ultimately joining Kiffin at LSU. In total, 20 coaches or support staff members made the move from Oxford to Baton Rouge.

With the rivalry heating up, fans won't have to wait long for the next chapter. Ole Miss is set to host LSU on September 19 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, where the Kelly family connection will add another layer of intrigue to an already intense matchup.
