Oklahoma State softball may have fallen short in the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, but don't expect the Cowgirls to hang their heads. After an 11-7 loss to Arizona State on Friday night at Devon Park, head coach Kenny Gajewski is already looking ahead with confidence to the NCAA selection show.

"We get an extra day of rest," Gajewski said, finding the silver lining after his team suffered just its fifth loss in the last 26 games. The Cowgirls, who entered as the No. 2 seed, saw starter Ruby Meylan struggle against a persistent Arizona State lineup, and the defense wasn't at its sharpest. The offense, meanwhile, didn't find its rhythm until it was too late—a familiar frustration for any team on a tough day at the plate.

Fifth-seeded Arizona State now moves on to face No. 1 Texas Tech in Saturday's championship game at 11 a.m. For Oklahoma State, the focus shifts to the NCAA Tournament selection show on Sunday, where the Cowgirls hope to secure a top-16 national seed and the coveted right to host a regional. With a strong resume built on a demanding schedule, the team has reason to be optimistic.

"I'm not nervous at all," Gajewski said. "Not at all. I was nervous my first year, when we were 29-26. We played, like, a top-10 schedule. I was nervous then because I didn't know. But I already know that we're in a great spot."

He added: "On Sunday, we'll know, and look, if we don't host, I'll be OK. The sun will rise and we'll go wherever it is and we'll go play well. We've already played a schedule on the road, so the road is not gonna be a bad place for us at any point."

That road-tested mentality has been a hallmark of this Cowgirls squad, which has been one of the hottest teams in the country over the past two months. Whether they're hosting a regional or hitting the road for the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma State is ready to make some noise. For fans, the wait until Sunday's selection show is part of the March Madness-style excitement that makes college softball so thrilling—and it's a reminder that every game, every pitch, and every play matters when you're building a championship-caliber season.
