The Oklahoma Sooners just got a major wake-up call: it's time to go all in on landing an elite legacy talent. And while the excitement is building, they need to remember that the 2030 recruiting class is still a long way off.
The Sooners have been busy sending out offers for the 2028 class, including three quarterback offers. But if you think 2028 is far away, try 2030. An elite recruit in that class is already drawing attention from major programs, and Oklahoma has a natural advantage—this kid is a legacy player. While that doesn't guarantee a commitment, it's a huge reason for the Sooners to push hard.
On Wednesday, Adrian Peterson Jr. received his first major offer from Miami. Yes, you read that right: Adrian Peterson Jr., the son of the legendary Oklahoma running back and 2012 NFL MVP. It's a moment that should make any Sooners fan feel a little old. Peterson Jr., a 2030 athlete from Ridge Point High School in Texas, now holds offers from Miami, Baylor, and Missouri State. But Oklahoma has not yet extended an offer.
The Sooners need to change that—and fast. With the first big offer out, other schools are sure to follow. Now is the perfect time for OU to step up, send an offer, and start building a relationship with the young talent. After all, his father's legacy at Oklahoma is unmatched: Adrian Peterson Sr. played for the Sooners from 2004 to 2006, racking up 4,045 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns on 747 carries. As a freshman, he set records with 1,925 rushing yards and nine straight 100-yard games.
Peterson went on to a stellar 15-season NFL career, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and the 2012 MVP award. He finished fifth all-time in rushing yards (14,918) with 120 touchdowns and 2,474 receiving yards. For the Sooners, landing his son would be more than a recruiting win—it would be a nod to history and a statement of intent for the future.
