The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a commitment from the No. 1 player in the state of Arkansas, adding defensive end Samuel Nelson to 2027 class.

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to build an impressive foundation for the future, securing a commitment from Samuel Nelson, the top-ranked player in Arkansas, for their 2027 recruiting class. Nelson, a standout EDGE rusher, announced his decision on Thursday evening via X, expressing his excitement to join his older brother Matthew at the University of Oklahoma.

Ranked as the No. 1 player in Arkansas by On3 and the No. 39 defensive end nationally, Nelson chose the Sooners over a competitive list of offers that included Arkansas, Florida State, Kansas State, North Texas, and South Florida. His commitment follows a visit from Oklahoma defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis, which clearly left a lasting impression.

"God's timing is my timing, and tonight confirmed what I have been feeling," Nelson shared in his announcement. "Coach Chavis said it felt like deja vu, and my dad's shirt translated means, 'it is finished!!!' Nothing else needs to be said. I'm officially ending my recruitment and will be joining my brother(s) at OU. Boomer!"

Nelson's addition strengthens an already elite 2027 class, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation by On3. He becomes the second defensive end to commit, joining Krew Jones from Utah. On the field, Nelson's stats speak volumes—according to 247Sports, he recorded 47 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 2025. At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, his combination of size, quickness, and athleticism makes him a disruptive force capable of pressuring quarterbacks and shutting down running plays.

For Sooners fans, this commitment signals another step toward a powerhouse future. As Nelson prepares to don the crimson and cream, his blend of production and potential makes him a player to watch—and a perfect addition to any fan's game-day gear lineup.
