Oklahoma again faces one of the country's hardest schedules in 2026

The Sooners will face another gauntlet on the field this season.

Since joining the Southeastern Conference, the Oklahoma Sooners have become no strangers to navigating a minefield of elite competition. As the program prepares for its third season in the nation's toughest conference, the 2026 schedule once again stands as one of the most daunting in all of college football.

College Football News analyst Pete Fiutak recently released his strength of schedule rankings for all 138 FBS teams, and the results should come as no surprise to Sooners faithful. Oklahoma checks in at No. 2 on the list, trailing only Alabama by a razor-thin margin of just half a point. Together, the Sooners and Crimson Tide sit in a tier of their own, far ahead of the rest of the country in terms of schedule difficulty.

Oklahoma's home slate features showdowns against UTEP, New Mexico, Kentucky, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M at Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium. The road, however, is where the real gauntlet awaits. The Sooners will travel to face Michigan, Georgia, Mississippi State, Florida, and Missouri. And, of course, no season is complete without the iconic Red River Rivalry against Texas, which will once again take place at the historic Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

While a brutal schedule has become the norm for Oklahoma in the SEC, head coach Brent Venables has made it clear that his team isn't looking for an easier path. Instead, the Sooners are embracing the challenge head-on. "We welcome it," Venables has emphasized, reflecting a mentality that has defined the program's approach to its new conference home.

With a schedule that tests them from coast to coast, the 2026 Oklahoma Sooners are set to be battle-tested like few others in the nation. Whether you're gearing up for kickoff against Michigan on Sept. 12 or the annual clash with Texas on Oct. 10, one thing is certain: this team will need all the grit, gear, and game-day energy you can bring.
