The Ohio State Buckeyes women's golf team has surged to the outright lead after a gritty second round at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, setting the stage for a dramatic final round on Wednesday.

Playing through challenging conditions that saw every team finish over par, the Buckeyes posted a +6 as a squad—a score that might not turn heads on a normal day, but on this Tuesday, it was enough to seize control. The round was nearly even more impressive before a late stumble: three Ohio State golfers combined to go five over par over the final two holes, turning what could have been a +1 round into a +6. Still, in a field where no one escaped unscathed, that resilience paid off.

Northwestern, which shared the Round 1 lead with Ohio State, slipped to +7, dropping into a tie for second place with No. 2 overall seed USC (which managed a respectable +2). The Buckeyes now hold a one-stroke advantage heading into the final 18 holes.

The stakes are clear: only the top five teams from each regional advance to next week's NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California. Ohio State currently sits 12 strokes ahead of sixth-place UCF, so barring a catastrophic round, the Buckeyes should comfortably punch their ticket. That would mark a significant step up from last year, when they finished 24th out of 30 teams at the national championship.

Across the country, the field is shaping up to be fierce. UCF (No. 14) and UCLA (No. 15) are the only top-15 seeds currently in danger of missing the cut, meaning the Buckeyes could face a loaded field in Carlsbad if they hold their position. For now, all eyes are on Wednesday's final round as Ohio State looks to cap a strong regional performance with a win.
