The three-star quarterback announced on Sunday that he will be taking his talents to Northwestern, choosing the Wildcats over Purdue, USF, and several other Power Five programs.

RJ Day has been making noise in the Buckeye State as a three-year starter at Columbus St. Francis DeSales, where he already holds school records for career passing yards and touchdowns. Standing at 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, the rising senior threw for 2,710 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior in 2025, bringing his career totals to 5,714 yards and 54 scores.

While the younger Day is ranked as the No. 78 quarterback and No. 1,178 overall player in the class of 2027 per Rivals, his commitment carries significant weight beyond the rankings. Northwestern's new offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, previously served on Ryan Day's staff during Ohio State's national title run in 2024. Even more notably, Kelly coached Ryan Day during his own college playing days at New Hampshire.

"It's really surreal when you think about the relationships that we've had with those two as a family over the years," RJ Day told ESPN. "Coach Kelly coached my dad in college, so that adds another layer to it."

The decision means RJ Day will compete in the Big Ten, putting him on a potential collision course with his father's powerhouse Buckeyes. While an offer from Ohio State wasn't in the cards given his recruiting profile, the younger Day drew interest from Iowa State, Clemson, Kentucky, and UCLA, along with USF—now led by former Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline.
