OG Anunoby’s hamstring injury has taken a worrying turn for the New York Knicks, casting a shadow over their playoff push. The forward, who suffered a right hamstring strain in the final minutes of Wednesday’s Game 2 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, was initially listed as questionable for Friday’s Game 3. However, just before tipoff, head coach Mike Brown ruled him out, offering a cautious "day-to-day" update.
The situation grew more concerning when Brown was asked if Anunoby could run. Instead of an answer, the coach deferred to Knicks PR, which responded with a curt "Next question." That silence speaks volumes about the uncertainty surrounding the star’s recovery timeline.
Anunoby limped off the Madison Square Garden floor late in the Knicks’ 108-102 win over the Sixers, leaving fans and teammates worried. He had been a force in the series, averaging 21.5 points on an impressive 61% shooting from the field and 51% from three-point range. In Game 1, he scored 18 points on near-perfect 7-of-8 shooting, and before his injury in Game 2, he posted 24 points, five rebounds, four blocks, and a steal.
With Anunoby sidelined, Brown turned to backup guard Miles McBride to fill the void. Teammate Josh Hart highlighted McBride’s defensive energy, noting, "Obviously [Miles] being able to pick up full-court helps. It gives whoever he’s guarding a different look. I’m 31, with some miles—I’m not picking up full court. So that gives a different look, turning someone a couple of times, trying to chew a bit of the shot clock. It all helps."
Despite the setback, Brown remains focused on the team’s collective effort. "No matter who’s in or out—Mitch [Robinson] was out for us last game—we just have to go out, try to do our job," he said before tipoff. "Nobody has to do anything extraordinary. Defensively and offensively, it’s the same with OG being out. It’s going to be a collective effort for everybody to step up."
For Knicks fans, the hope is that Anunoby’s absence is brief, but the silence from the team suggests this injury could be a pivotal moment in their playoff run.
