The long-awaited Derby della Capitale is finally set, and it's happening on Sunday. After days of back-and-forth, the Serie A scheduling conflict has been resolved, meaning Roma and Lazio will face off in an early kickoff that promises plenty of drama both on and off the pitch.

This wasn't an easy decision. The Lega Serie A had been pushing for a weekend slot from the start, but the Prefect of Rome initially blocked the idea. Their concern? The Stadio Olimpico shares a sports complex with the Italian Open tennis tournament, and having both events on the same day raised serious safety and logistical red flags. The Prefect wanted the match moved to Monday instead.

The league wasn't having it. Playing on a weekday would hurt viewership, and with four other matches scheduled simultaneously to keep the European race fair, they needed Sunday. So, they took the fight to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR). But instead of making a call, the court urged both sides to talk it out. That move worked. On Thursday evening, the Lega announced a deal had been struck with the authorities' approval.

As confirmed by La Lazio Siamo Noi, the derby will kick off at 12:00 CET on Sunday. To avoid clashing with the afternoon tennis final, the match has been pushed to an even earlier slot. It's a bold move that keeps the weekend action intact while respecting the tennis schedule.

The other matches happening at the same time? Pisa vs. Napoli, Juventus vs. Fiorentina, Genoa vs. Milan, and Como vs. Parma. That's a packed lineup for any football fan.

But here's where it gets interesting. Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri had previously threatened to boycott the derby if it was scheduled this early, calling it "illogical and disrespectful" given Rome's scorching mid-May heat. Now that the early time slot is official, all eyes are on the 67-year-old tactician. Will he follow through on his threat, or will cooler heads prevail? Either way, this derby just got even more compelling.
