The OFA baseball and softball teams had very different outcomes in Thursday's NAC Central doubleheader. The baseball squad cruised to a dominant 7-1 victory over Norwood-Norfolk, while the softball team fell to St. Lawrence Central in a tough 14-1 loss.
In another Central baseball matchup, Canton edged out Massena 6-4 in a tightly contested game.
OFA 7, Norwood-Norfolk 1
The Blue Devils' pitching duo of Lucca LaBella (5 innings) and Blake Ashley (2 innings) was the story of the game, combining for a four-hitter with nine strikeouts. The Flyers managed just one run in the fifth inning. At the plate, Noah White led the way with two singles, while Kellen Sutton drove in two runs and added a single. Hayden McDonald and Evan Nelson also chipped in with singles. For Norwood-Norfolk, Caden Liebfred had two singles, and Jesse DeRouchie and Carter Buske each added one.
Canton 6, Massena 4
The Golden Bears jumped out to an early lead, scoring in each of the first three innings and holding off a late rally by the Raiders. Pitchers Zadok Roiger (4.1 innings) and Max DeCoteau (2.2 innings) combined for the win. DeCoteau also made an impact at the plate with a triple and a single, while Lukas Clauson smashed a triple and two singles. Roiger added two singles, and Parker Ames and John Gidney each singled. Gavin Schryver crossed the plate twice. For Massena, Mason Deshane had two singles, while Marcus Firnstein, Andrew Boyea, and Gavin Mitchell each singled.
St. Lawrence Central 14, OFA 1
The Larries' Brianna Williams was unstoppable, pitching a complete game one-hitter with 14 strikeouts while also powering the offense with a home run and two singles. Maddyson Bernard added two singles, and Mary Cate Dow, AJ Sweet, and Heaven Jandrew each singled. On the OFA side, Marisol Bertrand singled and scored the team's only run, showing grit in a tough loss.
