Robinson, who filed the lawsuit arguing his single season of junior-college basketball should not count toward his NCAA eligibility clock, saw his immediate hopes dim with the ruling. His case had gained initial traction earlier this month when he was granted a temporary restraining order. In court filings, Robinson's team contended that an additional year could be worth over $500,000 in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, likely at a new school, highlighting the high financial stakes for athletes in the modern era.

The 22-year-old guard is coming off a standout 2025-26 campaign at Oakland, where he averaged 17.6 points and 6.7 assists, finishing 11th nationally in dimes. His journey through four years of college ball at three different institutions now faces uncertainty. His legal team had pointed to the precedent set by Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavio, who successfully sued for a sixth season after playing JUCO ball and later became a Heisman finalist.
