Follow our live updates as the New York Mets look to score a series win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night at Citi Field.

The New York Mets are back at Citi Field tonight, looking to turn a tough week into a series win against the Detroit Tigers. After a 10-2 victory on Tuesday night, the team is riding some momentum—but they’re also dealing with a major setback in the lineup.

Here’s the bad news: Francisco Alvarez, the Mets’ starting catcher, will be out for six to eight weeks after an MRI revealed a torn meniscus in his right knee. The injury happened on an awkward swing during Tuesday’s game, and Alvarez is scheduled for surgery soon. Manager Carlos Mendoza summed it up simply: “A lot of teams are going through adversity. We’re one of them, but we got to keep going. Guys are going to have to step up.”

On the bright side, the Mets got a boost from a new face. A.J. Ewing made his major league debut on Tuesday and wasted no time making an impact. He reached base four times in five plate appearances—three walks, a triple, two runs scored, and two RBIs. That kind of spark is exactly what the Mets need right now.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:10 p.m., and the Mets are sending Christian Scott to the mound for his fourth start of the season. Scott is still looking for his first win, but his numbers are solid: a 3.27 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. In his last outing against the Rockies, he allowed just one run on three hits over 4⅔ innings, striking out six. If he can keep that up, the Mets have a real chance.

On the Tigers’ side, left-hander Framber Valdez returns from a five-game suspension for intentionally hitting Red Sox’s Trevor Story in his last start. Valdez is 2-2 this season with a 4.57 ERA, but he struggled badly in his last outing, giving up seven earned runs in just three innings against Boston. The Mets will be looking to take advantage.

With Alvarez out, the lineup will need to step up—and guys like Ewing and Scott are showing they’re ready. Stay tuned for live updates as the Mets try to lock down a series win at Citi Field.
