Notre Dame football is making waves on the recruiting trail, and the wide receiver position—long a sore spot for the Irish—is suddenly a strength. The latest evidence? Elite 2027 four-star wideout Osani Gayles has named Notre Dame one of his top five schools, signaling that the program's recruiting momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
Gayles, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound slot receiver from Tracy, California, currently plays his high school ball at powerhouse IMG Academy in Florida. He's ranked as the No. 48 overall prospect in the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite, and he's also rated No. 51 in the Rivals Industry Rankings. On Monday, he announced his finalists via Hayes Fawcett: Notre Dame, Alabama, Tennessee, Washington, and Stanford.
For Irish fans, this is more than just another name on a list—it's proof that the wide receiver pipeline is finally flowing. The 2026 class already brought in a haul of talent, including four-star prospects Devin Fitzgerald, Kaydon Finley, Bubba Frazier, and Brayden Robinson, along with Dylan Faison. Fitzgerald, in particular, has drawn comparisons to a future star. Now, in the 2027 cycle, Notre Dame has a commitment from Jackson Coleman, but landing Gayles would be a major statement.
Gayles hasn't scheduled an official visit to South Bend yet, but expect that to change soon. With his blend of quickness, route-running savvy, and sure hands, he's the kind of dynamic playmaker who could thrive in the slot for the Irish. If Notre Dame can win this recruitment, it would further cement the program's new identity as a destination for top-tier receiving talent.
Stay tuned—this one is far from over, and the Irish are right in the thick of it.
