Notre Dame football has been on a hot streak in recruiting lately, but even the best teams can't win them all. The Irish just suffered a notable setback on the trail, as five-star tight end Jaxon Dollar—their top target at the position for the 2027 class—has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Dollar, a 6-foot-5, 222-pound standout from North Carolina, announced his decision Thursday, choosing Georgia over finalists Notre Dame and Miami. Ranked as the No. 33 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 19 recruit in the Rivals300, Dollar's size, athleticism, and sure hands made him a dream fit for the Irish offense. Unfortunately for Notre Dame fans, that dream won't become reality.

This is a significant loss for the Irish, who now have no tight end commits in the 2027 class and must pivot to other prospects. The tight end position has been a pipeline to the NFL for Notre Dame—just ask Eli Raridon, who was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. If you start at tight end for the Irish, you're almost guaranteed to hear your name called on draft day.

While missing out on a player of Dollar's caliber stings, Notre Dame's track record of developing tight ends into pros remains a powerful selling point for future recruits. The search for the next great Irish tight end continues.
