Notre Dame football has added a major piece to its future defensive line, securing a commitment from four-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho for the 2027 recruiting class. The announcement came on Friday, May 15, marking a significant win for the Fighting Irish.

Folorunsho, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound standout from St. Patrick High School in Chicago, chose Notre Dame over a powerhouse list of suitors including Georgia, Miami, Michigan, and Texas Tech. According to 247Sports Composite Rankings, he is the No. 43 overall prospect in the nation, ranked No. 3 at his position and No. 2 overall in the state of Illinois.

What makes this commitment even more impressive is Folorunsho's recent rise. Just a year ago, he was rated as a three-star recruit with only 11 reported offers. But by March, his recruitment exploded, and he quickly became recognized as a top-100 talent. In 2025, as a junior, he showcased his versatility as a two-way star, playing both defensive line and halfback. He finished the season with 55 tackles, including 18 for loss and five sacks—numbers that speak to his playmaking ability and relentless motor.

The Fighting Irish offered Folorunsho on February 6, and he made his first visit to South Bend on April 18 before returning the following week for the annual Blue-Gold Game. That experience clearly left a lasting impression, helping seal the deal for head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff.

Folorunsho is the 17th commitment for Notre Dame's 2027 class and the sixth Top 100 pledge, according to 247Sports. His addition has propelled the Irish past Texas A&M to claim the No. 2 overall team ranking in the nation. For a program that prides itself on building from the trenches, this commitment is a huge step forward—and a clear signal that Notre Dame's recruiting momentum is only building.
