The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are making serious noise on the recruiting trail, and the 2027 class is shaping up to be something special. On Tuesday, the Irish landed a massive commitment from five-star offensive tackle Olu Olubabola, sending shockwaves through the college football landscape.
With Olubabola's pledge, Notre Dame now boasts 15 total commits in the 2027 cycle, vaulting past USC to claim the No. 4 spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. Only Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and UCLA currently sit ahead of the Irish—but don't expect them to stay there for long.
This year feels different in South Bend. In previous cycles, the Irish have climbed to the top of the rankings only to slip as other programs filled out their classes. But with multiple top targets scheduled to announce their commitments this month, Notre Dame is making a clear push to overtake the Sooners for the top overall class. Of the top four teams, only the Aggies have fewer verbal commits, meaning there's plenty of room for the Irish to move up.
The momentum is undeniable. Olubabola is the fifth top-100 prospect in this class, marking the third time in the last four years that Notre Dame has achieved that feat. To put that in perspective: before head coach Marcus Freeman took over, the Fighting Irish had gone a full decade without landing five top-100 players in a single cycle.
With more big announcements on the horizon, this 2027 class has the potential to be one of the best in program history. For Fighting Irish fans, the future has never looked brighter.
