SOUTH BEND — In a major win for the Fighting Irish, Notre Dame football has landed a commitment from one of the nation's most sought-after offensive line prospects. Oluwasemilore "Olu" Olubobola, a towering 6-foot-6, 295-pound tackle from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, New Jersey, announced his nonbinding pledge during an online press conference on Tuesday, May 12.

Olubobola is a five-star recruit in the Class of 2027, according to multiple recruiting services, and he chose Notre Dame over fellow finalists Miami and Texas A&M. His decision marks a significant addition to the Irish's already impressive recruiting class, as he is projected to be the highest-rated signee for the program since defensive end Rodney Dunham in the 2026 cycle.

The hulking lineman drew early comparisons to Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl tackle Ronnie Stanley, a former Notre Dame great, thanks to his rare combination of size, agility, and raw power. With more than three dozen Power Four offers on the table, Olubobola had his pick of the nation's elite programs, including Midwest powers Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan, as well as Oregon and Texas.

Olubobola is currently ranked as the top overall prospect in New Jersey and the No. 3 offensive tackle in his recruiting class. His commitment vaults him to the top of Notre Dame's 15-member recruiting haul, which is already ranked among the top four in the nation.

St. Peter's Prep has a rich history of sending talent to South Bend. The same high school previously produced the Ademilola twins, Jayson and Justin, who starred on the defensive line for Notre Dame from 2018 to 2022. In the past decade, the program also sent quarterback Brandon Wimbush and linebacker Shayne Simon to the Irish, though both later transferred to Central Florida and Pittsburgh, respectively.

Olubobola joins four-star offensive tackle James Halter (Pittsburgh Central Catholic) as the latest commitments for veteran offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, who is entering his fourth season with the Irish. Notre Dame's 2027 class also features top-100 recruits Ace Alston (Cincinnati Anderson) and Xavier Hasan (Cardinal Gibbons, Raleigh, N.C.), as well as highly regarded quarterback Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV of Vero Beach, Florida.

With the early signing period expected to open later this year, the Irish are building a foundation that could pay dividends for seasons to come. For fans looking to rep the future of Notre Dame football, now is the perfect time to gear up in Fighting Irish apparel and be part of the journey.
