It appears that Notre Dame is poised to win out for a dynamic 2027 pass rusher. The victory would be a continuation of another elite defensive line class.

Notre Dame football is building something special—and the 2027 recruiting class is shaping up to be a powerhouse, especially along the defensive line. After already securing a commitment from four-star defensive end Aidan O'Neil this offseason, the Fighting Irish are now in prime position to add another dynamic pass rusher to the mix.

All eyes are on Jackson Vaughn, a four-star defensive end from Bergen Catholic in Oradell, New Jersey. Vaughn originally belonged to the 2028 class but reclassified earlier this offseason, making him an even more intriguing prospect. At 6-foot-4 with explosive athleticism, he has the kind of burst off the edge that can transform a defense. According to the 247 Sports Composite, Vaughn is currently ranked as the No. 204 overall player, the No. 22 EDGE, and the No. 5 player in New Jersey for the 2027 cycle—and those rankings are expected to climb as he heads into a big 2026 season.

The momentum doesn't stop there. Head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have been on a recruiting tear lately, landing four-star safety Zayden Gamble, explosive wide receiver Jackson Coleman, tight end Titus Hawk, and fast-rising safety John Gay III in recent weeks. But the defensive line class is where the real foundation is being laid.

National recruiting analyst Chad Simmons of Rivals recently logged an expert prediction favoring Notre Dame for Vaughn's commitment. While Simmons noted Miami as another program to watch, the Irish are currently the clear frontrunners. "We are into the month of May, recruiting is heating up, and it is commitment season," Simmons shared, adding that Notre Dame is firmly in the driver's seat.

For a program known for producing NFL-ready defensive linemen, adding Vaughn would be a major statement. His combination of size, speed, and raw power makes him a perfect fit for the Irish's defensive scheme. If Notre Dame can close the deal, this 2027 defensive line class could be one of the best in the country—and a nightmare for opposing offenses for years to come.
