It was a banner night for Northwest Rankin athletics as both the softball and baseball teams secured 7A Region 3 District Titles in thrilling fashion against rival Brandon.
On the diamond, Northwest Rankin junior pitcher Bella Pierce delivered a masterpiece, firing a no-hitter to propel her team to a 2-0 victory. This dominant performance marked her third no-hitter of the season, cementing her status as one of the most formidable arms in the state. While Pierce controlled the game, Brandon freshman Emma Shows provided a defensive highlight, making a spectacular play that is already being called the defensive play of the year.
Not to be outdone, the Northwest Rankin baseball team mounted a dramatic comeback. Trailing late in the game, their offense erupted for four runs to stun Brandon with a 4-1 win and clinch the district championship. The victory was sealed by a game-changing defensive gem, as Brooks Crawley made an incredible, run-saving catch to rob Brandon of a key hit with runners on base.
This double championship sweep showcases the depth of talent and competitive spirit at Northwest Rankin, providing a huge boost of momentum as both teams now set their sights on the upcoming state playoffs.
